14 temples to enter Phase 2-B

14 temples to enter Phase 2-B, 1 temple to reopen in Phase 2, and 3 temples to pause operations

In addition to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announcing an expanded phase of operations for proxy baptisms in certain reopened temples, the status of four South America temples has been impacted because of changing pandemic conditions locally.

As announced Monday, March 15, two temples in Brazil and one temple in Chile are pausing because of local pandemic conditions and precautions. The three, which had been operating in Phase 2, are:

  • Campinas Brazil Temple
  • Santiago Chile Temple
  • São Paulo Brazil Temple

Meanwhile, one temple — the Curitiba Brazil Temple — is resuming Phase 2 operations after having been paused because of COVID-19 conditions.

Also, the First Presidency announced on March 15 that 14 temples will move to a new Phase 2-B as early as March 29. The new phase designation expands the Phase 2 allowance for all living ordinance with proxy baptisms, with the temple baptistry is open for small groups — particularly for members with a limited-use recommend.

The 14 temples that could begin Phase 2-B as early as March 29 include:

  • Asunción Paraguay Temple
  • Bern Switzerland Temple
  • Calgary Alberta Temple
  • Copenhagen Denmark Temple
  • Córdoba Argentina Temple
  • Edmonton Alberta Temple
  • Frankfurt Germany Temple
  • Guayaquil Ecuador Temple
  • Kansas City Missouri Temple
  • Manila Philippines Temple
  • Medford Oregon Temple
  • Portland Oregon Temple
  • Seattle Washington Temple
  • Twin Falls Idaho Temple
